WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE MULTI-TALENTED?
I AM BY NO MEANS SAYING THAT YOU SHOULD BE AN UNEMPLOYED POTATO. Actually, I’m telling you the exact opposite – you are limiting yourself. Ever since that universe-stopping question in second grade, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” your mind has subconsciously trained itself to limit your capabilities to a couple of lukewarm life options. IT’S A SOCIETAL TRAP.
I have some friends who are currently attending (or going to attend) university and because I know them so well, I can tell that they are just drained. They don’t know what they really want for their lives, and they are struggling with the decisions that have just fallen into their laps. They have to pick something. One thing. And study that. And get a job doing that. For the rest of their lives.
SO CAN WE JUST…NOT DO THIS??
It’s become so clear to me that we are ALL multi-talented, multifaceted creatures – raging rivers, as my sister put it – and we are meant to go in all different directions. I’ve struggled with this a lot, guys. I want to be a musician. But I also want to be a writer. But I also want to be a singer. But I also want to be an activist. But I also want to be a blogger. And maybe someday I’ll be a sculptor, or a painter, or a burrito-maker. AND GUESS WHAT? THIS IS GOOD. THIS IS HOW IT SHOULD BE.
