Create Characters With Me (+ Free Character Profile Template) #NaNoWriMo2019

When I outline a new book, I always begin with the characters. Why? Because characters are the most important part of storytelling. We remember a story not because of the “stuff that happened” – we remember a story because of how the characters transformed as a result of their journey.

Today I’m taking you behind the scenes and revealing exactly how I outline my character profiles start to finish – and how I reverse-engineer my story’s theme to uncover my protagonist’s inner conflict. I’m so excited to show you how I turn my ideas into a reality! This system has worked wonders for me and I really hope it will help you too.

In today’s episode we cover a lot:

  • how I set up my Scrivener for success with outlining + writing
  • where to begin when outlining your novel (the very FIRST important step)
  • how to find your story’s theme
  • and uncover your protagonist’s misbelief/internal conflict
  • my ultimate character profile template + how to use it
  • what my NaNoWriMo2019 novel is about!

Let’s talk.

Let’s talk creating characters! Did you try out these templates? If so, how did it go? How is your NaNo prep going?? Be sure to come back next week for the episode on outlining using the 3-act story structure!
