How To Design A Stunning Book Cover (Without Any Graphic Design Skills!)

Like it or not, we judge every book by its cover. It’s the first impression a book has on us – whether we pass it in a bookstore or stumble across it online. A book cover can draw us in or turn us off – all in the 2 seconds it takes to glance at it.

That’s why it’s so important to have a stunning cover for your book. And that’s what we’re talking about in today’s video! A little while ago, I asked you guys what publishing topics you wanted to hear me talk about, and a lot of you wanted to see a video about book covers – not just how I designed my cover art for 100 Days of Sunlight, but how YOU can design your own book cover with little to no graphic design skills.

There are a few things you need to know before you set out on your cover-designing adventure – creative things as well as technical things. And in today’s video, I’ve done my best to touch on them all:

  • how I designed my book cover and the resources that helped me
  • getting inspired for your own book cover
  • how to make your book cover MATTER (yes)
  • the technical things you’ll need to know if you’re designing your own cover
  • a great resource for hiring a cover designer that’s perfect for you

Let’s talk.

Let’s talk book covers! Have you ever designed a book cover? Do you want to try it? What is that attracts YOU to a book cover? Let’s discuss book covers in the comments below!
